Apply the oil liberally and let it soak in. Within the first 5 minutes, the oil will soak into the grain quickly. Keep the surface wet, by applying another coat. I've had real good luck finishing black walnut with two Watco products made to work with eachother-Watco Danish Oil first, then Watco Wipe-On-Poly. Follow the directions and its hard to go wrong. Two coats of oil applied same day; then dry overnight. Three coats of poly drying 24 hrs. between coats with light sanding between each.

I've looked through the previous posts and am stuck on a detail of finishing using Danish Oil. I'm doing a walnut countertop and so far have: stained it, put on two coats of shellac (sanding w/600 between coats - I know - overkill) and one coat of Tried and True Danish Oil.
